Von Maur sets opening of store

Alabama's newest department store is set to open its doors to the public at Riverchase Galleria November 2. This is Von Maur Department stores first location in Alabama.

The three-level, 185,000 square foot store is located at the mall's former Macy's location. It will eventually employ more than 200 associates. The store underwent a full reconstruction.

Von Maur is a family-owned business. It operates 27 stores and is committed to expanding one to two stores each year. In the past two years, it has opened two stores in Georgia.

    A pair of recent mountain biking wrecks in Anniston led first responders to review rescue routes. The fire department's mountain rescue team members said missions Saturday and Sunday went well, and they spent time Wednesday mapping other ways to access remote locations at Coldwater Mountain. The trails opened a couple of years ago, but some parts are still under construction. There are currently 27 miles of open trail and the management is in the process of expanding the paths to 35 miles.More >>
