Alabama's newest department store is set to open its doors to the public at Riverchase Galleria November 2. This is Von Maur Department stores first location in Alabama.

The three-level, 185,000 square foot store is located at the mall's former Macy's location. It will eventually employ more than 200 associates. The store underwent a full reconstruction.

Von Maur is a family-owned business. It operates 27 stores and is committed to expanding one to two stores each year. In the past two years, it has opened two stores in Georgia.

    An abused pitbull puppy in Calhoun County has a new homewith an armed guard.  Anniston police officers Matthew Preuninger and Brian Scott rescued the canine from dogfighting. Preuninger adopted the dog and named him Phil.  "He just looks like a Phil," Preuninger said.  The officers were on patrol late last week when they saw an injured pit bull puppy on the side of the 300 block of Chestnut Street."  It just looked weird. The closer we got the more strange it looked."More >>

    The second suspect in the 2012 murder of an Oxford man entered a guilty plea Monday.  A Calhoun County judge sentenced 32-year-old Cameron Lavorus White to 20 years as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.  White pled guilty to the murder of Barry Wright and the attempted murder of Lorenzo Gilmer. The shooting happened at Wright's house in Oxford on July 21, 2012. Gilmer is confined to a wheelchair due to the injuries he suffered during the shooting.More >>
