Von Maur sets opening of store

Alabama's newest department store is set to open its doors to the public at Riverchase Galleria November 2. This is Von Maur Department stores first location in Alabama.

The three-level, 185,000 square foot store is located at the mall's former Macy's location. It will eventually employ more than 200 associates. The store underwent a full reconstruction.

Von Maur is a family-owned business. It operates 27 stores and is committed to expanding one to two stores each year. In the past two years, it has opened two stores in Georgia.

    An Etowah County woman left her living room just seconds before a car crashed through the house on Saturday. The Toyota Matrix, driven by 46-year-old Michael Lee Maddox of Southside, exited through the front of the living room and smashed into a tree in the front yard. Southside deputy police chief Philip Roberson said it appears Maddox died upon impact with the tree. "Right now the accident is still under investigation, but we believe there was a medical issue that happened with the driver."More >>
