Alabama's newest department store is set to open its doors to the public at Riverchase Galleria November 2. This is Von Maur Department stores first location in Alabama.

The three-level, 185,000 square foot store is located at the mall's former Macy's location. It will eventually employ more than 200 associates. The store underwent a full reconstruction.

Von Maur is a family-owned business. It operates 27 stores and is committed to expanding one to two stores each year. In the past two years, it has opened two stores in Georgia.

    Nearly 200 Calhoun County children will receive "Christmas Cheer" thanks to the Anniston Army Depot. Employees raised $28,000 to purchase and wrap presents for children in need. "This volume of gifts and the people who bring it all together does not surprise me at all," depot commander Colonel Brent Bolander said. A flatbed truck loaded with bicycles and three box trucks full of toys arrived Wednesday morning at the Department of Human Resources in Anniston.More >>

    Anniston police said a man who shot and killed his next door neighbor Friday is not likely to face charges.  Investigations captain Allen George said this appears to be a case of Alabama's Castle Law.  Homeowners are allowed to use deadly force to protect against people breaking in.  George said Larry Johnson locked himself inside his Wilmer Avenue home Friday evening after getting in an argument with his neighbor, Randall Dale Gaddy.More >>
