Von Maur sets opening of store

Alabama's newest department store is set to open its doors to the public at Riverchase Galleria November 2. This is Von Maur Department stores first location in Alabama.

The three-level, 185,000 square foot store is located at the mall's former Macy's location. It will eventually employ more than 200 associates. The store underwent a full reconstruction.

Von Maur is a family-owned business. It operates 27 stores and is committed to expanding one to two stores each year. In the past two years, it has opened two stores in Georgia.

Around 5:50 pm, North Precinct Officers responded to a person shot and found the victim lying on the ground in the street suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the body.     Anniston police officers, elected officials, and community activists gathered at Norwood Homes apartments Wednesday afternoon to plea for help finding the person who shot a two-year-old boy September 9.  Investigators said the child had surgery on his foot to repair several broken bones, and he is now home from the hospital.  Police captain Allen George said two men in a red or burgundy four-door sedan drove along West 29th Street and fired four or five shots.More >>
