Von Maur sets opening of store

Alabama's newest department store is set to open its doors to the public at Riverchase Galleria November 2. This is Von Maur Department stores first location in Alabama.

The three-level, 185,000 square foot store is located at the mall's former Macy's location. It will eventually employ more than 200 associates. The store underwent a full reconstruction.

Von Maur is a family-owned business. It operates 27 stores and is committed to expanding one to two stores each year. In the past two years, it has opened two stores in Georgia.

    A Heflin man now faces charges after he shot a black bear. In addition to those charges, the man could face a $2,000 fine.The Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries recently sent out advisories that bears were spotted in parts of east Alabama. Black bears are protected by state law because of low population.State wildlife authorities say if you spot a bear, make loud noises and back away slowly. Never make direct eye contact with a bear and do not feed it.More >>

    The victim said that two black males kicked in his patio door to his upstairs apartment. This woke the victim who grabbed a handgun and fired at the suspects hitting one of them as they entered his apartment.
